• There are many financial instruments that can be traded with on this market.
• This is an extremely liquid market where huge volumes of business are transacted on a daily basis.
• Foreign exchange markets exist virtually in every country of the world and are inter-connected by all the electronic mechanisms available.
• These markets are open for trading 24 hours a day ( excluding weekends)
• Dealings can be done by means of leverage.
• Many different types of businesses ranging from Banks, Investment Companies, Commercial Enterprises and individuals deal within this market on a daily basis.
• There are many types of brokers operating within the confines of a forex market. Some concentrate on particular products and  trading in particular financial instruments.
• A market where derivatives can be traded is part of the forex markets although these derivatives markets are often separate entities and have their own exchange.
• These are markets where speculators can trade freely and with the huge financial resources that many of these traders have ( e,g. Central Banks) they can when participating in deals have a definite impact on the value of a currency in which they are dealing.

Foreign Exchange markets operate throughout the world today and are located in many different countries. There is no central market as such, and all the markets that operate are inter-connected. There are no regulations with regard as to how the markets must operate in different countries. Many of these markets trade in different financial instruments which of course are all part and parcel of foreign exchange trading.
